Unrelated but two things

1- Loved the radio show with Paul Shirley, best one so far in my humble opinion. (But really how did Donika not expect you to know that sharks have been around for ever. I thought that was common knowledge)

2- What's the status of Rotten White Kids? Does it exist at all anymore, or was it an idea that has come and gone?

As usual great stuff.

You are correct sir! The judges also would have accepted Mick Fleetwood.

Can't wait to see who your pick is for bass player.

I would have to agree with you so very much about Ween being an underrated band. They have so many great songs that just rock your shit and are unforgiving. Specially, The Final Alarm, that song is amazing and only the beginning of what their music is all about. If we're going to talk about drummers I have to say that yes I agree with Charlie Watts as an underrated drummer but I have to put in Danny Carey from Tool. I dont know if you listen to Tool but they are a fucking phonemail band. Randomly if we're talking about bands I must say that the new Black Key album is the shit. Listening to it while lounging by the beach getting toasted with a nice night cap of William Larue Weller bourbon. I just want to drink it all the time but it was a gift, and such a good whiskey, i dont want to waste it.

That's an awesome story about "Soul Sacrifice." Clearly you went to school during a much better era (ten years makes a hell of a difference). I remember my roommate putting that Woodstock version on during someone's birthday party once at our townhouse sophomore year and a bunch of girls asking snobbishly, "Uhm, like, what is this?" I think he made the mistake of turning off "Call on Me" or something. It was a truly depressing moment. One thing I must say about "S.S." is that, no matter what your substance of choice, that songs sounds equally good...whether it's weed, booze, coke, shrooms, etc., it just fucking works.

I've watched that video from Woodstock at least fifty times, and I still can't figure out what the one naked dude in the middle is doing holding a sheep. It always makes me laugh.

"Charlie's good tonight isn't he?" If Keith was the backbone of that band, Charlie was the pulse. Nowhere is it more clear than Ya Yas, as Mick noted. Is Garth Hudson overlooked enough to make this group?

Also, have you tried Serious Madness Black by Mad River?

steve gadd is also a great drummer dedicated to the groove that most people don't know

he created that lick in simon's "50 ways to leave your lover"

he's currently playing with clapton, i think.

I've talked to a few drummers who have said Phil Collins is remarkably underrated as a pure drummer (as opposed to pop solo artist or singer for Genesis). Anyone who isn't Neal Peart sucks in my book so I didn't remember that until I read this piece.

I'm listening to Dr. Lonnie Smith right now. Man talk about a guy who's a festival for the eyes and ears. That's my vote if we're going to load up the band... Lord and Winwood are funky mofos, but the Funk Doctor is from another planet! PIZZA! PIZZA!

Of course, of course. Them Crooked Vultures was decent - Dave Grohl's a hell of a drummer. His playing on Songs for the Deaf was amazing. I never dug the Foo Fighters, but as a drummer the guy's brilliant. My only beef with JPJ - All My Love. Unless I'm mistaken, Jones is responsible for that horrible fucking song.

PL: Ahhh, but if the song had never existed, Ween would never have been able to do this brilliant parody of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54uG7VoLvWQ

Speaking of Ween... That is one brutally underrated band.
